Lid warping with burn marks on your Instant Pot? Find out why this happens, what it means for safety, and what your options are.

If the lid of your Instant Pot shows visible warping or burn marks on the outside, this is a recognisable sign of external heat damage. This type of damage occurs when the lid comes into contact with, or is placed near, an external heat source such as a gas or electric stove, oven, or open flame.
Why this happens The Instant Pot lid is made of materials that can warp or discolour when exposed to high external temperatures. This type of damage has a distinctive appearance: burn marks or discolouration on the outside of the lid, combined with visible warping of the plastic or silicone components. This damage cannot occur during normal use of the Instant Pot itself, including during pressure cooking or a water test.
Does this affect safety? Not necessarily. The critical question is whether the metal components of the lid are intact and whether the lid still seals and locks correctly. If both are the case, the appliance remains safe to use. The damage is cosmetic in nature and does not affect the pressure cooking function or the safety mechanisms of the appliance.
Is this covered by the warranty? No. Damage caused by external heat results from circumstances outside of normal use and does not constitute a manufacturing defect. Warranty coverage applies to defects in materials or workmanship under normal conditions of use. Damage resulting from external heat sources falls outside this scope and is therefore not covered.
What to do
- Inspect the lid carefully. Check whether the metal components are undamaged and whether the lid still seals and locks correctly before using the appliance again.
- Continue using your Instant Pot if the lid functions correctly. If the lid seals and locks as intended, the appliance is safe to use despite the cosmetic damage.
- Request a replacement lid. If you wish to replace the lid for aesthetic or practical reasons, contact an authorised service centre to order a compatible replacement lid for your specific model. This will be at your own cost, as the damage is not covered under warranty.
- Do not use the appliance if the lid no longer seals properly. If the lid does not seal, lock, or close correctly, stop using the appliance and contact an authorised service centre for advice.
Damage to the Instant Pot lid caused by external heat is not covered under warranty, as it results from contact with external heat sources rather than a product defect. If the lid still seals and locks correctly, your Instant Pot is safe to continue using. Should you wish to replace the lid, a compatible replacement lid is available through our website at your own cost. If you have any doubts about the safety of your appliance, always consult the retailer of your Instant Pot before use.
