Short circuit in an Instant Pot multicooker is almost always a factory defect / warranty case when this happens the very first time you connect the appliance to your electrical circuit.

If it was not during the very first use, then these are the 2 most likely causes, and how you can test:

  1. Overloading of the electrical circuit, test on another circuit
    • Unplug, wait 1 minute, plug into another outlet on a different circuit, preferably without other heavy appliances on that circuit, and try again. Overloading or a defective appliance on the same circuit can trip the breaker, especially when heating elements switch on. Source: Schneider Electric

  2. Electronics damp or wet, check for moisture scenarios
    • If liquid has ever entered the housing because it was accidentally poured into the base without the inner pot, or if cooking under pressure was done without the sealing ring, or with the ring incorrectly placed, then moisture may have reached the electronics and caused the RCD or breaker to trip. The manual explicitly states never to pour liquid into the cooker base and to place the sealing ring correctly before pressure cooking.
