Instant Pot tilted after transport?
The support ring/foot has been pushed under the casing. Easy to fix and does not affect function or safety.
Tip: Always perform a water test before first using your Instant Pot.

What you’ll notice (symptoms)
- The base/bottom appears uneven or pushed inward into the stainless steel outer shell.
- The cooker may wobble or no longer stand level.
- Sometimes the plastic ring/foot (bottom edge) is loose or broken.
Cause
During transport, the cooker may have been compressed. Usually, only the plastic support ring/foot that “clicks” or rests on the outer rim shifts or breaks.
Important: safety & performance
This issue is generally cosmetic and mechanical on the exterior and does not affect pressure buildup, heating, or safety mechanisms.
However, stop using the cooker and contact support if you see any of the following:
- Cracks in the metal housing, loose internal parts, or rattling
- Damaged power cord, burning smell, melted spots
- Visible loose wiring or broken ventilation openings
Solution: straighten the base by reattaching the support ring
Required tools
- Phillips screwdriver (fitting the screws)
- Soft cloth/towel (to prevent scratches)
- Strong plastic-safe glue (only if the ring is broken)
Steps
- Unplug the unit. Let it cool completely.
- Place a soft cloth down and turn the cooker upside down.
Unscrew the bottom plate (the screw shown in the photo, plus any others securing the bottom cover).

(Note: appearance may vary slightly by model, but is similar for most Instant Pots)
- Under the plate are 3 extra screws: remove these as well.
- Remove the plastic support ring/foot.
If it’s broken, glue it back together and let it fully cure as instructed. - Reinstall the ring: place/click it on top of the rim of the outer shell so it sits evenly all around.
- Reattach all screws (first the 3 under the plate, then the bottom plate).
Tighten firmly but gently: do not overtighten or force. - Set the cooker upright and check that it stands level and doesn’t wobble.
Extra tips for a clean, lasting fix
- Before closing, check that the ring is not pinched and the bottom plate lies flat.
- Ensure glue residue does not enter vents or edges.
- After assembly, test: the cooker should be stable and the bottom plate should not be under tension.
Frequently asked question
Does this affect safety or performance?
In almost all cases: no. It only concerns the lower support ring/foot, not the pressure chamber or electronics. It’s harmless and usually easy to fix with the steps above.
