Noticing a light “new appliance” or plastic-like smell in your Instant Vortex Slim 5.7L during the first uses is common and usually temporary. As the unit completes a few hot cycles, harmless manufacturing residues can burn off, and the odor fades quickly. The good news: with a short clean-and-burn-in routine—plus an optional vinegar/steam deodorize—you can remove the smell fast and start cooking with confidence. If the odor persists after these steps, we’ll help you check a few simple things and support you further.

The steps below usually remove it fast and safely:
- Clean & check
• Wash the basket, tray, and any removable parts with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry thoroughly.
• Check for and remove any protective films, stickers, cable ties, or packing pieces (especially on the tray and basket). - Burn-in cycles (ventilated area)
• Place the clean, empty basket and tray back in.
• Set the air fryer to 205°C (400°F) for 15 minutes.
• Let it complete the cycle, then repeat 1–2 more times. Keep windows open/extractor on. - Deodorize with steam
• Place an oven-safe dish in the basket with: 250 ml water + 60 ml white vinegar (or the juice and peel of 1 lemon).
• Run at 205°C for 10 minutes, then leave the basket closed for another 10 minutes so the steam can work.
• Wipe the interior (including under and around the heating element once cool) with a soft, damp cloth and dry. - Deep deodorize for accessories (optional)
• Make a paste of 2 tbsp baking soda + a little warm water.
• Spread lightly on the basket/tray, leave 15–20 minutes, then rinse and dry. - Usage tips that also help
• Avoid aerosol oil sprays; use a high-smoke-point oil sparingly (e.g., avocado, refined sunflower).
• Don’t preheat with parchment/liners inside.
• Ensure at least 13 cm clearance around the unit and avoid using it directly under cabinets during high-heat cycles.
Important: If the smell is strongly “burning plastic,” if you see smoke from plastic components, or if the odor persists after 4–6 burn-in/deodorizing cycles, please stop using the unit and let us know. In that case, to investigate under warranty, please share:
