How to distinguish between cosmetic discoloration/residue and actual defects on the heating plate (inside the base unit), including safe cleaning steps, prevention tips, and when a warranty inspection is needed.

The photos show the heating plate inside the base unit (the round coated metal under the inner pot). This is not the stainless-steel inner pot itself.

  • A dull haze, rings, or spots are usually heat patina or dried residue from condensation or spills.

  • As long as the surface remains flat and there are no blisters, flakes, or deformation, it is generally cosmetic and does not affect performance.

Possible causes of stains or marks on the heating plate

Warranty?

  • ❌ Heat patina from normal use (metal/coating discoloration).
  • ❌ Dried condensation or spills baked in from previous sessions.
  • ❌ Boiling over or splattering of salty or sugary liquids landing on the plate.
  • ❌ Inner pot not completely dry on the outside, causing water or lime spots.
  • ❌ Cleaning agent residue or aggressive cleaners causing discoloration.
  • ❌ Abrasive sponges or steel wool → dull cosmetic marks or scratches.
  • ❌ Short periods of dry heating (empty pot or too long on Sauté-High) → heat discoloration.
  • Rare: manufacturing defect of the coating (visible bubbling or flaking).

How to safely clean the heating plate

Always unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.

  1. Surface cleaning: Wipe the plate with a lightly damp, lint-free cloth and a drop of dish soap.
  2. Stubborn spots: Use a soft, non-abrasive sponge with a bit of isopropyl alcohol or mild stainless-steel cleaner. Never use steel wool or scouring powders.
  3. Protect the sensor: In the center there is a small round sensor disc. Do not press or scratch it.
  4. Dry thoroughly: Make sure everything is completely dry; no moisture should remain inside the base.

Never pour liquid into the base unit, and only place the inner pot back when its exterior is completely dry.

Prevention tips

  • Ensure the outside of the inner pot is dry before placing it back.
  • Clean any spills only when the appliance is switched off, unplugged, and cooled down.
  • Never heat “dry” without the inner pot inside.
